This program brings African American individuals, some famous and other less famous, to uncover their past going beyond the racial segregation, beyond slavery to uncover their past through family and DNA history.
Using a serious historical research based on documents and records, the family tree and events are discovered and discussed. The whole is completed by a DNA analysis to retrace their African origin to link these Men and Women to a tribe, a region and a land.
This documentary is so far the best I saw about the importance of knowing who one is and being proud of it all, including the less flattering facts. I believe every African American family should have a copy of this documentary at home, encourage their kids to watch it, to ask questions and be curious about their own origin. Because, I believe the best of the prides is the one based on knowledge of self.
Beyond-What-We-Seehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00965267075310603625noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7068045163942391538.post-62698279922783789722008-01-21T10:35:00.000-08:002008-01-21T15:36:32.112-08:00Let the Dream live

Monday January 21st, 2008

Today is a Great Day, the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's birhday. The Civil Rights Movement leader and inspirator in America. The one who, against all odds, changed the course of history for millions of African Americans or simply Americans. His actions, the way their were conducted and the outcome that resulted are a source of pride and inspiration for the whole humanity.

Today, after a look back 45 years after his assassination, we still have a long way to go to get to the "Dream" of Dr. King. Behaviors form both sides of the issue, I mean Blacks and Whites, in spite enormeous efforts made are still short to cut from the past.

Fortunately, the new generation; less exposed to the, now far, issues of open racism, institutional segregation or discrimination by law, tends to live across the line of divide unlike the older generations. The time is playing its role, but People need to keep that Dream alive by acting upon it and transmitting the good message of love, peace and mutual acceptance.

Beyond-What-We-Seehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00965267075310603625noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7068045163942391538.post-24333630206625299502008-01-01T10:39:00.000-08:002008-01-01T11:39:19.399-08:002008 --- 2008 --- 2008 HAPPY NEW YEAR2008 IS HERE. There is a remarkable development of African origin and culture based communities. Also, it is not necessary to precise how important is the African American community.
America has always been a land of opportunity where people coming from every place in the world, get settled and organize themselves as communities. They usually live in the same geographic area, start businesses, found families and become owner of the place. That is the case for Italians in South Philadelphia, Latinos in Los Angeles neighborhoods and Asians in Chinatown of every big city.
If you have ever walked or driven on West and South-West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Woodland, Chester or Elmwood Avenues, you might think you are in Africa. The sound of the music coming out of the stores, the dialects and strong accented English that you will hear in the street, mix with the exotic sent of specialty foods.
The African Village could be a very good way of promoting life, businesses and culture. How interesting would it be able to discover Africa without flying hours and spending thousands of dollars? That can represent a point of reconnection of the Black people, Americans or not, with the mother land Africa; which will result on an increased self esteem and pride, especially for those who did not chose to come here.
This is just an idea thrown out; more details about the denomination, the financing and the symbolism around it are to be determined by an open debate, in which every concerned person can participate.Beyond-What-We-Seehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00965267075310603625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7068045163942391538.post-79358983467447135482007-12-12T20:25:00.000-08:002007-12-12T20:44:16.416-08:00Source of humanity In the 21st century, still, the stigma resulting from that dark episode of humanity, are haunting Black people wherever they are. I mean the BLACK PEOPLE. Americas (North - South - Central), West Indies, Caribbean Islands and Europe are places where Africans have been taken through slave trade. Misunderstanding and a lack of communication between the different members of the same family are the reason for most fears we have for each other.
This blog is intended to launch the bases for a dialogue and exchange within the Black Diaspora. Some believes and assumptions, mostly negative are deeply encrusted in everyone’s head. Africans think negatively of African Americans, African Americans overlook Africans; West Indians want to deny their links to the black continent and so on. The best thing to do, right now is to talk it up, get to know each other better
The reality is no Black People re-development is possible without the mobilization of all positive Black forces from all origins and social levels.
Brothers and Sister welcome to Beyond What You See blog, report positive thoughts, empowering actions and constructive ideas for the Renaissance of the source of the Humanity and authors of the most celebrated civilization in Human history.

Beyond-What-We-Seehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00965267075310603625noreply@blogger.com0
